Research Highlights
Selected contributions from my research across molecular biology, biotechnology, microbial science, cancer biology and translational biological research.
Unfolding the Apoptotic Mechanism of Tabebuia pallida in Cancer Cells
Journal of Ethnopharmacology / Elsevier · 2021
This study investigated the anticancer and apoptosis-inducing potential of Tabebuia pallida leaf, stem bark, root bark, and flower extracts using Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) cells and an EAC mouse model. T. pallida extracts demonstrated significant tumor-growth inhibition and promoted apoptosis by upregulating pro-apoptotic pathways (p53, Bax, PARP-1 and caspases) while suppressing anti-apoptotic signaling (NF-κB, Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL).
Whole-Genome Sequencing of Chromobacterium amazonense BASUSDA_45
Data in Brief / Elsevier · 2023
This study characterised the draft genome of Chromobacterium amazonense BASUSDA_45, a bacterial strain isolated from cypermethrin-contaminated soil in Bangladesh with the capacity to degrade pesticides. The assembled genome spans 4.30 Mbp with a 62.30% GC content and contains 4,181 predicted genes, including 4,096 coding sequences, 76 tRNAs, 3 rRNAs, and 4 non-coding RNAs. The final assembly consisted of 53 scaffolds, with an N50 of 3.73 Mbp.
Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Bangladesh's BT5 Tea Cultivar
Nanoscale Advances / Royal Society of Chemistry · 2025
This study developed an eco-friendly approach for synthesising silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using
the BT5 cultivar of Bangladeshi green tea and investigated their anticancer activity and
molecular mechanisms in an Ehrlich-Lettre ascites carcinoma (EAC) mouse model.
BT5-AgNPs demonstrated strong anticancer activity, with a 1 mg kg⁻¹ treatment producing
52.15% inhibition of EAC cell growth. The nanoparticles showed a crystalline size of
11.25 nm, an average FE-SEM particle size of 35 ± 8.36 nm, and a zeta potential of −39.8
± 0.45 mV.
DAPI staining revealed characteristic apoptotic nuclear changes, including
heterochromatization and karyorrhexis. Molecular analysis further demonstrated
upregulation of p53 and BAX and downregulation of Bcl-2, supporting activation of the
apoptotic pathway.
Exploring Potent Inhibitors and Binding Modes of Phospholipase A₂
Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics / Taylor & Francis · 2019
This study investigated potential inhibitors of phospholipase A₂ (PLA₂) from Naja naja snake venom
using a multi-stage computational drug-discovery workflow designed to identify compounds
capable of disrupting key catalytic and functional sites of the toxin.
Three leading inhibitors demonstrated favorable interactions with functionally important
PLA₂ regions, including the Ca²⁺-binding and phosphatidylcholine activation sites. Their
binding modes suggest a potential ability to interfere with the enzyme's catalytic
activity and inflammatory effects.
The shortlisted compounds also exhibited favorable physicochemical and pharmacological
properties, while molecular dynamics simulations supported the stability of the
predicted inhibitor–PLA₂ complexes.
